Wednesday, October 9th, 2013

Myron F. Nielson, 91, a lifelong Skagit County resident, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.

He was born on Sunday, July 30, 1922 in Hamilton, WA, the son of Fredrick & Nellie (Whitley) Nielson.  Myron was raised and attended school in Hamilton and graduated from Hamilton High School with the class of 1941.

On April 20, 1944 he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served his country in the South Pacific as an airplane mechanic during WW II.  He received his honorable discharge on February 24, 1946.

On July 5, 1945 he was united in marriage to Joyce Marie Hinshaw in Bellingham and after his discharge they made their home and raised their family just east of Hamilton and where Myron has made his home for the past 65 years.

Myron worked as a millwright for many years, with much of that for Hanson Lumber Company.  He also worked for 15 years at Mount Baker Hardware in Sedro-Woolley and then as a maintenance supervisor for the Washington State Parks for 15 years until his retirement in 1985.

Leisure time found Myron fishing, boating or traveling and many fond memories were from when he was a character with the Wild Women of Woolley during the 4th of July.  He also enjoyed helping out friends and neighbors and being with his family.

Myron is survived by his children and their spouses, Randy & Sharon Nielson of Birdsview and Kim & Bill Stiles, III of Sedro-Woolley; his 5 grandchildren, Shawn Nielson, Cameron Nielson, Avery Stiles, IV (Kellee), Melanie Brown (Jacob) and Brendan Stiles; 3 great-grandchildren, Madeleine Stiles and Josie and Lincoln Brown.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce; 3 sisters, Ora Nielson, Vernice Mullen and Ruth Harrington and special friend, Virginia Burress.   The family request that contributions be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Myron.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Hamilton Cemetery with Pastor Eric Wangen-Hoch officiating.  A fellowship gathering will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Eagles.  Visitation will be available at  Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
