Myrtle Glaze, 84, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at her home in Sedro-Woolley, WA, surrounded by members of her family. A memorial service is scheduled to honor her Thursday, August 30, at 11 a.m. at the Inspire Church of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley.
Myrtle Alma was born to Delbert Young and Anna Henriksen Young on January 6, 1928, near Forward, Saskatchewan, Canada. At the age of six, she moved with her family to Montana, where she completed her schooling. She was graduated from Glasgow (MT) High School in 1946 and attended North Central Bible Institute (now North Central University) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for one year.
On June 26, 1947, she was married to Alton Lyle Glaze at Wolf Point, MT. Her husband was graduated from North Central in 1951, and they pastored Assemblies of God churches in Montana, North Dakota, and Oregon. They had four children: Sharon Howe, William (Bill) Glaze, Michael (Mike) Glaze, and Shirley Smith.
Myrtle loved God, her family, and church work, especially bringing her teaching and arts and crafts skills to Sunday school and children’s programs and her deep love for scripture to Bible studies. One of her greatest joys was teaching Bible verses to children. She brought the same dedication to raising her own children, and used her many skills in cooking, gardening, sewing, and needlework to make homes for them in many places.
After her children were grown and the couple lived in the Spokane, WA, area, Myrtle brought her caregiving skills to others who needed help to remain in their homes through illness and disease. She and her husband retired to Umatilla, Oregon, in 1992. He died in 2005, and she moved to Sedro-Woolley in 2007 to be near family. She was a member of the Inspire Church of Skagit Valley, participated in the weekly Bible study at the Sedro-Woolley Senior Center, and enjoyed socializing with her fellow residents at the Sedro Villa Apartments.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raymond Young, Ralph Young, and William Young; her husband, Alton Glaze; and three grandchildren, Loretta Ann Glaze, Joe William Glaze, and Vincent Preston Smith.
Survivors include three sisters and spouses, Dorothy Canen (Lloyd), Glasgow, MT; Margaret Jimison (George), Conrad, MT, and Jean Bucher, Wilhelmina, OR; and by her children and spouses, Sharon Howe, Sedro-Woolley; William Glaze (Katherine), Martindale, TX; Michael Glaze (Marti), Little Rock, AR; and Shirley Smith (Douglas), Sedro-Woolley.
In addition to numerous nieces and nephews, Myrtle is survived by her grandchildren and their spouses, Charles Glaze (Betty), Elgin, TX; John Glaze (Jehan) and Richard Glaze (Jessica), Delle Valley, TX; Ben Glaze (Brigette O’Brien), Spring Branch, TX; Robyn Glaze, Martindale, TX; Rebekah Tiemens (Sean), Concrete, WA; Cyndi Bishop (Robert), Bainbridge Island, WA; and Amelita, Sierra, David, Taylor, Natalie, and Tristan Smith, Sedro-Woolley. Memorial contributions may be directed to Inspire Church of Skagit Valley or Hospice of the Northwest.

We will miss Mom but are overjoyed that her prayers have been answered and she is with Jesus.
We’ll miss dear Grandma (Greatgrandma for Hagia Sophia) Glaze. We’ll always remember her bible stories, games of scrabble, and strawberry rhubarb pie
Myrtle was a friend, supporter of missions, and a person of prayer. We enjoyed meeting her when she moved to Sedro Woolley. She has left a tremendous legacy of faith in the lives of her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren! May all of us step up and fill her shoes when it comes to a faithful life of prayer and dedication. We are very thankful to have known Myrtle.
