Norma June Wharton, 87, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley.
She was born on May 31, 1920 in Kellogg, Idaho, the daughter of Joseph & Maude Mills Miller. In the early 1920’s the family moved to Sedro-Woolley and there she was raised and attended school, graduating from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1938.
Norma was married to Howard Bowen and from that marriage her son, Richard was born, and they made their home in Spokane. In 1953 she married Jim Wharton and they lived in Newhalem and there Norma worked in the cookhouse for Seattle City Light for several years. They eventually moved to Seattle and Norma worked for the Fredrick & Nelson’s downtown store where she was the manager of the art and needle work department until the store’s closure. Jim passed away in 1979 and Norma remained in Seattle until the early 1980’s when she returned to Sedro-Woolley.
Norma enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and was a wonderful seamstress, working crossword puzzles and going on walks.
Norma is survived by her sister, Patricia Butt of Sedro-Woolley and her children, Sue Bryson and Linda Hall. Her brother, George Miller and his wife, Gladys of Big Lake and their children, Cheri Tesarik, Patty Ennen and Jon Miller. Her son and daughter-in-law, Richard & Pam Bowen of Bullhead City, AZ. 3 step-children Larry & Mick Wharton and Jennifer Dare. Her grandchildren, Jurene Bowen-Brooks, Greg Bowen-Brooks, Jason Brooks and David Brooks and 2 step-great-grandchildren, Aaron & Jennifer Brooks.
Graveside services for Norma will be held on Monday, July 23, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Pastor Walt Rice of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
