Wednesday, October 19th, 2016

Norman D. Fredrickson, 82, a longtime Day Creek community resident, passed away on October 18, 2016 in Mount Vernon.
Norman was born on August 29, 1934 in Mount Vernon, the son of Fred & Vida (Marchant) Fredrickson. Norm was raised and attended grade school in Day Creek and Clear Lake. He then attended and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1953.
Norm worked as a log truck driver for several years until being called to serve his country in the U.S. Navy. After his military service he returned to his beloved Skagit Valley. In 1961 he was united in marriage to Carol Haley, who was from Snohomish, and he met in San Francisco while in the service, and they made their home and raised their family in Day Creek. Norm returned to driving log trucks until 1979 when he then drove trucks for Boyd Lumber, Concrete Nor’West and several other companies until his retirement in 1999; and all this time he also operated a beef cattle farm.
Norm was dedicated to his community, serving on the Day Creek Volunteer Fire Department for over 38 years, serving as Chief for many years and as a Commissioner.
Leisure time found Norm hunting, welding and fixing anything and just tinkering.
He is survived by his children, Jim Fredrickson of Moses Lakes, WA and Diane Donahou and husband Mike of Marysville; 5 grandchildren, Cory Loreen, Jennifer Hebert, Sarah Barratt, Rachel Miller and Melissa Luke; 9 great-grandchildren; his former spouse, Carol Fredrickson and numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Christofer Loreen.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Memorials in honor of Norm are suggested to the Day Creek Volunteer Fire Department or Alzheimer’s Research. Arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
