Paul James Wagner, 92, a longtime Skagit County resident, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018 in Lynden, WA.
Paul was born on April 1, 1925 in Reedsburg, WI, the son of Frank & Ruth (Kelley) Wagner. He was raised and attained his education in Reedsburg.
In 1944 Paul was united in marriage to Dorothy Richert, and in 1945 he was inducted into the U.S. Army, serving his country during the Korean Conflict. Paul returned to Reedsburg where he made his home until 1955 when the family moved to Skagit County and Paul worked as an L.P.N. at Northern State Hospital until its closure. He then transferred to the Buckley School until his retirement in 1990.
In 1966 Paul married Jean Cannon and they made their home in Buckley and Skagit County until her death in 2004.
Paul enjoyed traveling, gardening, working on old cars and going fishing. For many years he was a member of the George Baldridge Post 43, American Legion.
Paul is survived by his children, Barbara Schimke-VanRensum (Martin), Donna Greenwell (Jerry), Gloria McDonald (Doug), Cheryl Bates, Kathy VanderPol (John), Rebecca Hoyle (companion Mick Malcolm), Paul Lewis Wagner (Cassandra), Frank Wagner (Rachael) and Crystal Wagner; 31 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 infant daughters, Paula May & Gloria Elizabeth; his wife, Jean; brothers, Arland & Roland Wagner; 4 sons-in-law, Brian Hoyle, Norman Schimke, Tim Bates and Larry Adkins and 4 grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Christian Health Care Center, 855 Aaron Dr., Lynden, WA 98264.
Graveside Inurnment Services with Military Honors will be held at the Hamilton Cemetery on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Steve Fish officiating. A fellowship will follow at the Hamilton Café. Cremation and service arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
