Penny Jean Alskog

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Penny Jean Arthur Alskog suffered a sudden brain aneurysm, and passed away July 19, 2007 at the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born the middle child of Gilbert and Shirley Arthur in Burlington, WA on June 25, 1949 and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High in 1967.
Ever since she was a young girl, her passion was her horses, which still brought her great joy until her death. In her younger years, she loved horseback riding and competed in barrel racing and pole bending, achieving numerous awards for her accomplishments. During the 1970’s, Penny enjoyed her work at the old Albertson’s Bakery in Mount Vernon and met her husband Ed Alskog in 1975. They married in 1977 and seven years later, her pride and joy, and her one and only daughter, Jamie was born.
She lived her life dedicated to her, caring for Ed and her animals. She was excited to move back to Sedro-Woolley from Bay View four years ago, finding the perfect place just down the road from her long-time best friend, Brenda Linn, whom she had priceless visits with almost daily. Those who knew Penny know that she was the most giving and caring person, never willing to focus on her own troubles, and always the first to ask how you were doing. It is her selflessness that will be remembered, as well as her great sense of humor.
She is survived by her husband, Ed Alskog at their 10 acre property and home in Sedro-Woolley; her daughter, Jamie and her husband Mathew Messina of sedro-Woolley; her mother, Shirley McClure Arthur of Sedro-Woolley; her sister, Cathy and husband Rob Cloquet; her brother, Robert and wife Marly Arthur; her sister-in-law, Linda and husband Fred Lloyd; her sister-in-law, Carrie Alskog and mother-in-law, Lorraine Alskog. Additional family includes her uncles Dick McClure, Lyle and his wife Verna McClure; niece Monica and her husband Robert Leidig, niece Milena Arthur, nephew Michael and wife Daphne Arthur, niece Deann Hamilton and nephew Jeremy Hamilton. She is also survived by numerous cousins and their children; in addition to her longtime friends, Brenda Linn, Norma Lisherness and pseudo-daughter Erika Keizer.
She is preceded in death by grandparants and Aunt Jeanne McClure Gilbert.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Wendy Tingley of Trinity United Presbyterian Church of Sedro-Woolley officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Lupus Foundation, 2000 L Street NW, Ste. 710, Washington, DC 20036. www.lupus.org
