Phyllis Doctor

Monday, January 5th, 2015

Phyllis Mae Doctor, 78, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away of lung cancer on Monday, January 5, 2015. She died peacefully and was in no pain.  Almost all of her family was with her during the holidays and that was special.

Phyllis was born in Rifle, Colorado on March 25, 1936 to Rawlin E. and Mildred M. (Downey) Trail.  Phyllis had an older sister, Cleo Melba Trail Rieckers.  After leaving Colorado the family moved to eastern Washington with other family members where Phyllis went to Metaline Falls High School.  She was still in close contact with her best friend Carol Mondrich from there.

They later moved to Spokane and she married the love of her life, Alvin Doctor on February 8, 1957.   They spent many years in Spokane before moving to Sedro-Woolley in 1970 to continue raising their three daughters.

She began her career in 1976 working in the Registrar’s office at Skagit Valley College.  Although she retired after 25 years she still enjoyed meeting with Gail and other friends and former colleagues on a monthly basis for lunch.

She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother.  As a mother her whole life revolved around her family and she was always there with help, concern, advice and money….whether you wanted it or not!

Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Terril Moore (Tom), Lindy Doctor and Teresa Keene (John); 7 grandchildren, Joey Moore (Erika), Jehra Moore, Jay Moore, Angela Norris, (Eric), Anna Hamilton, (Todd), Joshua Keene, (Marion) and Alex Keene; 8 great-grandchildren, Morgan Ensley, Bailey Hamilton, Randall Hamilton, Lilah Moore, Slater Moore, Harly Norris, Hunter Norris and Erica Norris, and her beloved Papillon/Bichon mix, “Bob”. She also leaves behind her favorite Uncle “Morgan”; brother-in-law and wife, Vernon and Dixie Doctor and numerous nieces and nephews.   She in preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Doctor; her parents, Rawlin and Mildred Trail and her sister, Cleo Rieckers.

We would like to thank the caregivers at Where The Heart Is in Burlington and the Hospice Northwest Team (especially Doug and Marion) for all the care and love you gave our mom and our family.  If you would like, make donations in mom’s name to Hospice of the Northwest: 227 Freeway Drive, Mount Vernon, WA  98273

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Norm Swihart officiating.
