Raymond Daniel ‘Butch’ Boome, Sr., 74, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident and Upper Skagit Indian Tribe member, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 29, 2006.
He was born on April 23, 1932 at Tulalip, Washington, the son of Charles & Regina Maluch Boome.
In 1939 Ray came to Skagit County where he was raised and attended school, attending Sedro-Woolley High School.
On December 9, 1952 he married Frances Olive Williams and they made their home in Sedro-Woolley until her death in 1970.
Ray worked in the woods a tree faller, bucker and choker setter for Janicki Logging for 20 years, retiring in 1973, at which point he began commercial fishing on the ‘Nut Acres’ area of the Skagit River.
Ray protested for fishing rights before the Boldt Decision.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching sports and gardening.
Ray had a unique blood type and over the years had donated over 750 units of blood and plasma.
He is survived by his children, Raymond, D. Boome, Jr., Debra J. Morris and Robin K. Boome. 15 grandchildren & 7 great-grandchildren. His sister, Gladys Belles and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides Frances he was also preceded in death by his parents; his daughters, Victoria Lynn Solomon and Shirley Renee Boome and 2 grandchildren, Stephen & Kelly Solomon.
The family is comforted knowing that he is now with his loving wife, children and grandchildren.
A Native Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2006 at 7:00 pm with Funeral Services on Friday, December 8, 2006 at 10:00 AM at the Upper Skagit Tribal Gymnasium. Interment will be at the Sauk Indian Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
