Raymond E. Huggins, age 90, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at the Life Care Center in Mount Vernon.
He was born July 20, 1916 in Delavan, Kansas, the son of Bert and Ruby Sturgis Huggins.
Ray has been a resident of Sedro-Woolley since 1938, coming here from Kansas where he and his brother Roland started Sedro-Woolley Auto Parts, and it continues today under third generation ownership.
During WWII, he served his country in the U.S. Army and after his discharge from the service in 1946 he returned to Sedro-Woolley to run auto parts store with his family, retiring in 1983.
Ray was united in marriage to Emogene McComas on October 5, 1941 in Spokane and they had 41 wonderful years together until she preceded him in death in 1982. He then married Dorothy Flannigan in 1985 and they made their home at the Skagit Golf & Country Club for many years.
Ray was active in his community for many years. He was a member of the Sedro-Woolley Rotary Club since 1950, serving as president in 1960-61, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, the Elks and the Skagit Golf & Country Club where he enjoyed golfing and working in his yard.
Ray is survived by his wife, Dorothy Huggins of Mount Vernon. Two sons, Les Huggins and his wife Fay of Sedro-Woolley and Bob Huggins and his wife Karen of Belton, TX. A daughter, Kathleen Huggins of Spokane and a step-daughter, Patti Flannigan of Bellevue. 4 grandchildren, Steve Rhonda, Denise Dee, Sheri Tod, Donna, and 9 great- grandchildren, Gregory, Chelsea, Ashley, Emily, Madison, Cameron, Stoney, Ben, and Journey. 5 sisters-in-law, Violet Fisher and Thelma Asseln of Anacortes, Dorothy Huggins and Velma Walker of Sedro-Woolley, and Bernice Huggins of Woodburn, OR. Also numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers, Roland, Harold, Leland, and Homer.
Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at 2:00PM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Pastor Wendy Tingley of Trinity United Presbyterian Church officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 3rd from 9AM to 5PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley.
