Richard Dean Jenkins, 62, a longtime Skagit County resident, passed away at his home near Concrete surrounded by his loving family and friends after an extremely short battle with cancer.
He was born on August 1, 1945 in Los Angeles, California, the son of Dudley R. & Edna H. Proctor Jenkins. Most of his life was spent in Skagit County and he attended school in Burlington and Sedro-Woolley.
Richard was united in marriage to Bette Miller-Scofield in 1988 and they just recently celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary.
Richard worked as an equipment operator in construction and for over 20 years with the city of Sedro-Woolley, working in the street department. It was a job he really loved. He enjoyed talking to people he met in his daily routine and he loved operating all his big toys.
Richard is survived by his wife, Bette at the family home near Concrete. His daughter, Cynthia Pearl Jenkins of Portland, Oregon, who he loved immensely and was very proud of. 2 brothers, James Jenkins and Steve Alba; a sister, Robyn Alba and 2 step-children, Eric & Heather Scofield, also who he loved very much.
A family memorial service will be held in the spring of 2008. The family requests that memorials in memory of Richard be made to a charity of your choice.
