Richard Ernest Duvall, age 72, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at his home near Sedro-Woolley.
He was born January 27, 1935 in Sedro-Woolley, WA, the son of Ernest and Louise Waters Duvall. Richard grew up in Roseburg, OR attending school and after graduating from high school, he attended BYU in Provo, UT earning his BA Degree. He later attended the University of Minnesota, receiving his Masters Degree in 1960. Richard then served with the US Army for two years and upon his discharge, he returned to Sedro-Woolley and began his 34 year teaching career as a Chemistry Instructor at Skagit Valley College.
Richard was married to Esther Ison on December 19, 1972 at the Manti LDS Temple in Manti, UT and they have celebrated 34 years together. He was a member of the Sedro-Woolley LDS Church and worked at the Family History Center at the LDS Church in Mount Vernon. Richard enjoyed hiking and was a member of the Alpine Club, he enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, reading, especially about history, and he developed his own library. He was a sports enthusiast and he belonged to several leagues.
Richard is survived by his wife, Esther Mae Duvall of the family home in Sedro-Woolley. Two daughters, Celeste Mae Duvall-Johnson of Sumas and Judith Medeiros and her husband Matthew of Davis, CA. Two grandchildren, Simone and Dominic Johnson of Arizona. His mother-in-law, Betty Ison of Everett and his brother, John Duvall and his wife Joan of Laramie, WY. Numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, William and James.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1122 McGarigle Rd., Sedro-Woolley with Bishop Melvin Call officiating with interment to follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. An evening visitation will be on Tuesday, June 26th from 7:00 – 8’30 pm. Memorials are suggested to the Humanitarian Fund at the Sedro-Woolley LDS Church.
