Richard J. ‘Dick’ Gallagher, 74, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley surrounded by his family.
Dick was born on November 4, 1933 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Richard J. & Mary Brannen Gallagher. He was raised and attended school in several mid-west and western states as his father traveled in the construction industry. They finally settled in Sedro-Woolley in 1950 and Dick attended and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1951.
From 1953 to 1955 he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Dick was united in marriage to Bobbie Watson on September 9, 1955 in Sedro-Woolley and for 10 years they made their home in Anacortes and Dick worked as an operator at the Shell Refinery. In 1965 they lived briefly in Burlington and Lyman, finally settling in Sedro-Woolley in 1966.
Dick was a truck driver in the lumber industry for over 35 years, working mostly for W.R.P. and Boyd Lumber in Sedro-Woolley and then for Struss Wood Products.
Dick enjoyed camping, fishing and hiking with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie at the family home. 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie & Rick Lemley of Sedro-Woolley, Kathy & Frank Folly of Williamsburg, VA and Barb & Keone Henry of Bellingham. 8 grandchildren, Evan Mandy, Lauren & Kayla Lemley; Heather, Megan, Ashley & Erin Folly and Logan Henry. 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, John & Bonnie Gallagher of Lyman, Chuck & Kathleen Gallagher of Sedro-Woolley, Pat & Arlene Gallagher of Port Ludlow; 3 sisters and a brother-in-law, Peggy & Homer Evans of Port Ludlow, Eilene Ehr of Moses Lake and Mary Johns of Tumwater and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen Murphy. Memorials are suggested to a charity of your choice.
Funeral services for Dick will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Lemley Chapel with Pastor Rick Miles of the Day Creek Chapel officiating.
Services are under the direction of and visitation available at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley.
