Robert L. ‘Bob’ Davis, 83, beloved Brother, Father, Grandfather, and Friend passed from this world on Saturday November 1, 2008 at United General Hospital in Sedro Woolley.
He was born on September 21, 1925 in Theresa, New York, one of thirteen children of Howard & Rebecca Cork Davis. Bob was raised and attended school in Theresa until joining the U.S. Navy at age 17 in 1942.
He willingly served his country during WW II where he was stationed on a mine sweeper in the South Pacific and also served during the Korean and Viet Nam Conflicts, mostly working as a records and maintenance officer. He was stationed in Panama, New York, Hawaii, California and at NAS Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor. He was honorably discharged in 1967 after 25 years of service to his country. After his discharge he settled in Mount Vernon, WA where he worked as a home repair and painting contractor, working mostly for Ace Garling House as a contractor for over 20 years. He also made his home in Bow and Alger until settling in Sedro-Woolley in 2000.
Bob enjoyed life’s adventures, eating peanut brittle, and bringing new life to older cars.
He is survived by 3 sisters, Luella Griswold of New York, Mary Hudson of Kentucky, and Beatrice Weaver of Arkansas; 1 sister-in-law Cecilia Davis of Hawaii; two daughters, Mary Jean Klopfenstein and her husband Gary of Mount Vernon and Becky Clifton and her husband Greg of Lynden, his companion Suparp Miles, neighbor Donna Greenwell, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, William John Davis in 1975, and nine siblings.
A Life Celebration will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Bow Church of Christ with Pastor Bill Heberling officiating. A Pot Luck luncheon will be held at the church following service. Memorials are suggested to the Bow Church of Christ or the American Lung Association.
Cremation services are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
