Tom G. Vlahovich, age 92, a lifetime resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Ashley Gardens in Mount Vernon.
He was born March 7, 1915 in Ronald, Washington, the son of Matt and Mary Starcevic Vlahovich.
Tom worked as a logger, logging above Ross Dam and later worked on the construction of Grand Coulee Dam. He was a founding share holder of Mt. Baker Plywood in Bellingham and retired after 30 years of service.
He was married to Mary Luton on December 30, 1955 in Coupeville, Washington and they celebrated 51 years together until her passing last month on June 8th.
Tom enjoyed farming, raising Polled Hereford cattle, gardening, and he especially loved his grandchildren and over the years, his 4 blue healers all named Sandy. He built the three homes he resided in and also helped in the construction of the Senior Center. Tom was a member of the Washington Cattlemen’s Association and a founding member of the Marysville Livestock Auction Barn.
Tom is survived by his children; Don Kelly of Moberly, MO, David Kelly and his wife Tracy of Pasco, Dennis Deitz and his wife Mary Ellen of Norfolk, VA, Tom Vlahovich and Virginia Good of Sedro-Woolley, Tia Burnett of Sedro-Woolley, and Sue Thramer and David Haynes of Mount Vernon. 11 grandchildren; Tiffany Shaw, Dawn Wilson, Donnie Vorhees, Tim Burnett, Tom Vlahovich, Jake Thramer, Brian Burnett, Ron & Trisha Meyer, Tori Dietz, and Alex Kelly-Beeler. 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Brothers and sisters; Mary Cheek of Louisana, Nick Vlahovich and his wife Dorothy of Mount Vernon, Jim Vlahovich and his wife Joan of Sedro-Woolley, Sue Jolley of Fruitland, Idaho, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Vlahovich of Spokane. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, a brother, John and 2 sisters, Anne and Frances.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Rose, Cheryl, and Angela for the special care they provided for our Dad.
Graveside Services will be Monday, July 9, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Pastor Marilyn Kallshian of Central United Methodist Church in Sedro-Woolley officiating. Visitation available at and services under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association 12721 30th Ave NE #101 Seattle, WA 98125.
