Vera Mary Fox, 98, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2006 at Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood.
She was born on May 22, 1908 in Amery, Wisconsin, one of ten children of Charles and Alvina Mahre Fox.
In 1913 Vera and her family moved to homestead in Turner, Montana, eventually coming west to Washington in 1923, settling in Clear Lake. Vera graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1926 and continued her education at Bellingham Normal School now Western Washington University to attain a teaching certificate.
She returned to the family farm in Clear Lake with her parents, where she remained until selling the farm in 1975. Besides farm work, Vera worked for the local canneries and berry farmers.
Vera and her youngest sister, Katherine, bought a home together in Sedro-Woolley where she lived until assisted living became a must and she moved to Stanwood.
She enjoyed gardening, especially growing dahlias and raspberries.
She is survived by her only living sibling, Kathryn Cassel of Sedro-Woolley. Though she never married, Vera was blessed with a large extended family of 19 nieces, 18 nephews, 29 great-nieces and 60 great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 7 brothers, Thurston, Lyle, Rueben, Ira, Irving, Theodore and Ronald and 1 sister, Alvina.
Memorials are suggested to Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood.
Graveside Services will be held on Monday, December 4, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Clear Lake Cemetery with Pastor Troy Faith Ward of Josephine Sunset Chapel officiating. A Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 PM at the Josephine Sunset Chapel in Stanwood. Arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
