Verene Kay Bilbery (Smith)

Tuesday, March 20th, 2018

Verene Kay Bilbery (Smith), 69, of Marblemount, returned to her heavenly home March 17, 2018 after a valiant battle with cancer.  The devotion of her family, church and her firm belief in God supported her during her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.

She was born to Victor and Emma Smith in Shelton, Nebraska.  She was raised with strong spiritual and family values on a large farm with siblings, Josephine, Kirk, Vaughn, and Darnell. Both her mother and father, along with other family members lovingly met her at the gates.

Verene graduated from Shelton High School in 1966, where she was described as having the sweetest personality by her classmates. She then moved to Washington, where she met her husband, David Bilbery, of 51 years.  She was blessed with three beautiful daughters, Christina Leigh, Mary Lynn, and Jolene Kay; 4 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson.

A strong connection to God and being active in her church community was always important to her throughout her life. She led many vacation bible school studies, played the piano during services, taught Sunday school, loved singing in the choir, Bible study and organizing the children’s Christmas program.

Verene was a very selfless woman who believed in helping everyone in whatever way she could, and took joy in spreading the word of God to whomever she came into contact with. She often volunteered for her community, and made sacrifices in order to put her three girls through private school. She succeeded in instilling her spiritual values in all of us.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to her beloved church family that walked beside her and her husband during every step of her journey.  Donations can be made to:  Community Bible Church, 45672 Limestone St, Concrete, WA. 98237.

Verene will be laid to rest at Forest Park Cemetery in Concrete, WA. A Celebration of Life to follow at a later date.  Arrangements are under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Wooley.  Share your memories of Verene and sign the online guess register.

Verene was a sweet lady who was always ready to help anyone in need. We admired how steadfast she was in her faith, never waivering, even in the most difficult times. She will always be a bright light in our memories.

Verene will be deeply missed. My thoughts go to the family during this sad time and especially to Christina. May God help you all through this journey of sorrow and help heal your hearts from the loss of a wonderful woman.
