Winnie Mae Hittson

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

Winnie Mae Hooker Hittson. October 6th 1935- April 21st 2007. On April 21st we lost our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and confidant. Winnie Mae Hittson, ‘Queen of the Ball,’ waltzed her way into heaven as her work was done here on earth. She will be sorely missed and we will keep her memory and passion for life alive in our hearts forever.
Winnie was born on October 6, 1935 in a log cabin near the town of Canabal, in Carroll County Arkansas. Her claim to fame was she was named after Will Roger’s plane, ‘The Winnie Mae’. Her family moved to Skagit County when she was an infant and she has resided here since. Growing up in the small town of Lyman, she made many life long friends and enjoyed many happy moments with them. She graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1953 and shortly after married William Hooker where they made their home and raised their three children.
Winnie was a very caring person working as a Certified Nursing Assistant for over 25 years at various long-term care centers in the Skagit Valley. Her love for color was evident in her flair for fashion and interior design. She loved spending her free time gardening, watching movies with her grandchildren and having great conversation with old friends. Her adventurous soul loved traveling to different places; whether it was sunbathing in her backyard, making her way around the golf course, dancing salsa, or taking a dip in Soap Lake. You would rarely find Winnie without a smile on her face or a funny story to tell. All 71 years of her life were lived to the fullest, with not one day that went by that she wasn’t enjoying herself and laughing.
She is survived by her two older siblings: Cecil Hittson and his wife Betty, Ethel Miller and her husband Bob. Her three wonderful children; her oldest daughter Stephanie Gaddis and her husband Robert, her son Scott Hooker and his wife Staci, and her youngest daughter Laura Larson and her husband Matt. Winnie had seven grandchildren and a great grand-daughter that she loved dearly: Tobi Heath and her husband Chris and their daughter Graci, Samuel Gaddis, Ana Walia, Krysta Walia, Whitney Walia, Kyle Hooker and Quinn Hooker.
Please wear your most colorful outfit to ‘The Celebration of Winnie’s Life’ memorial which will be held Saturday, May 5th at 1:00 p.m. at 825 Bennett Street in Sedro-Woolley. Please bring your favorite story or memory and a pot-luck style dish to share.
