Nancy Joan Nelson, age 85, of Sedro-Woolley, Washington passed away October 21, 2021, at United General Medical Center, Sedro-Woolley.  She was born December 21, 1935, in Vancouver, Canada to Harold and Nancy (Marshall) Haines.

After graduating from King Edward High School, Nancy attended St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Bellingham, WA, graduating in 1958.  She then put her nursing skills to work at Skagit Valley Hospital and Northern State Hospital in the Skagit Valley, and in North Carolina, Seattle and Everett.  She had a lifelong love of learning with a long list of eclectic interests.  She became a massage therapist in 1986, to help her husband with his medical issues, and he built her a clinic before his death.  She then became a Clinical Hypnotherapist in 1991 and continued operating her clinic until 2000.  She was free now to embark on a long-held dream, earning her Bachelor, Master and Doctor of Theology Degrees (2006, Summa Cum Laude) from St. John’s University, in Nashville, TN.

Nancy married Leonard Nelson in 1978 and they lived near Lake Goodwin until Leonard passed away early in a car accident in 1989.  She was an over 20-year Ladies Auxiliary member of the Eagles, Aerie No. 3242, Burlington, WA.

Nancy is survived by her son, Jonathan D. Staples; grandchildren, Cameron R. Staples and Elise N. Staples; great grandchild, Cadence R. Staples, all of Creston, B. C., Canada;  her fur kids (cats), Ben and Tita; dear friends, David Cope, Lynnette Nilsen, Jessica Olson and Becky Freilinger.

At Nancy’s request, there are no services; she was laid to rest with her husband, Leonard at Marysville Cemetery, Marysville, WA.  Share your memories of Nancy and sign the online guest register.

I am so saddened to read this. I emailed Nancy today to wish her a Happy Birthday and when she did not quickly respond like she usually does, I googled her name 🙁 Nancy was a dear friend. I’m sorry to all who loved her. It is a blessing to know that she is at peace with her Savior.

Sweet Sweet Nancy! How I will miss your smile, spunk, passion, intensity, and generous care! I loved that you always remembered your bank friends on National Ice Cream Day in honor of President Reagan. You will be missed, but we know you are in God’s loving arms and with your husband, Leonard. Rest easy sweet friend until we see you again!
