Alice Ellinger, age 85, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on December 29, 2016, at Homeplace in Burlington.

She was born on January 29, 1931in Sedro-Woolley, the daughter of Jasper and Mamie (Smith) Mumford. She was raised and attended grade school at Samish and graduated from SWHS with the class of “49ers”.   She then attended and graduated from Western Washington College, majoring in music.  In the early 1950’s she married Ken Fitzgerald and from that union her children, Ken, Norma and Terry were born.  As they grew older Alice worked at Northern State Hospital where she furthered her nursing training, getting her LPN license.

On June 21, 1969 she married Wayne Ellinger and the family moved to Eastern Washington and Alice worked at Dayton General Hospital for several years.  In 1974 they moved back to Sedro-Woolley and she worked as an LPN and then administrative assistant at the Burton Care Center in Burlington for 15 years; she then worked as an Intake Specialist in home health care, retiring in 1997.

Alice mostly enjoyed singing and playing the piano and organ at First Baptist Church, even composing some of her own music.  She also enjoyed working in her flower beds.

Alice is survived by her children, Kenneth Fitzgerald, Jr., of Texas, and Norma Sexton and Terry Fitzgerald, of Eastern Washington; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wayne Ellinger; sister, Genevieve Puchalla and brothers, Harold, Jim, Bob and Don Mumford.

A Life Celebration Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Richard Coursen presiding.  Private interment was held at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.  Memorial Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, or a favorite charity in lieu of flowers.  Arrangements are under the care of Lemley Chapel.

Sad to hear of Alice’s passing and the last of her generation. She was a sweet lady, and I believe she is in a better place now. My condolences to the family.

I was married to her son Terry, she was truly a wonderful person, She loved her children and grandchildren. I will always remember the holidays with her and her fabulous meals, and we always went home with a box of what she called our care package. She was so sweet and loved her God. I’m sure she is looking down on all of us from heaven and saying I’m finally home with my god..rest in peace sweet lady I loved you..and thank-you.

Wonderful lady. I had the privilege of growing up and attending church with Alice and her family. She was our accompanist for the choir. A beautiful lady who loved her Lord. Wonderful memories of her and her family.
