ALICE MAE CONARD, 81, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away at her home on Thursday January 16, 2003 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 30, 1921 in Sylva, NC, the daughter of Thad and Emma Moore Conner. She was raised and attended school in Sylva. She was united in marriage to William Virgil Conard in Clayton, Georgia on April 3, 1938, and they made their home in Sylva, NC until moving to Sedro-Woolley, WA in 1948. Mae worked in housekeeping at Northern State Hospital and United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley for many years.
She was a longtime and active member of the First Baptist Church in Clear Lake and enjoyed flower & vegetable gardening, knitting, crocheting, camping, CLEANING and being around her numerous friends, family and her beloved dog Chu Chu.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen & Jim Cagle of Lyman, WA. A daughter-in-law, Margie Conard, also of Lyman. 1 brother, Ed Conner of Sylva, NC. 4 sisters, Pearl Ammons of Clear Lake, WA, Marie Camby of Okanogan, WA, Lucille Cooper of Whittier, NC and Annie Cordell of Candler, NC. 4 grandchildren and spouses, Cindy & Jim Vlahovich, Ken Cagle, Gordon Conard, Jill & Mike Saxton and Kathy Close. Great-grandchildren, Arin Claybo, Melissa & Matt Forstein, Dana & Derek Cagle, Riley & Amy Conard, Amanda, Megan, Kody & Kaycie Saxton and Katie & Jamie Vlahovich. Great-great-grandchildren, Emma Claybo and Kendra Green, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Virgil in 2000, her son, TC Conard in 1970 and a great-grandson, Brian Cagle. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Barbara Lee, Mae’s night time care giver.
The family also suggests memorials be made to the Clear Lake First Baptist Church, Skagit Hospice or a charity of your choice.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday January 21, 2003 at 11:00 AM at the Lyman Cemetery. Pastor John Batts of the Clear Lake First Baptist Church officiating.
