  • George and Joanie Nelson

Our dear friend, you will be greatly missed. Your wonderful bear hugs, laughter and smile. You brought sunshine on a cloudy day. Thanks for all you have done, the support you gave me and the kids while George was over seas serving. Taking Ellieanna and Riley to the many parks all over town in an afternoon playdates. Many memories we all will cherish. God is the blessed one now to have you up with him. We miss you and will see you in Heaven when God calls us home to be with Him. Love ya Al!

  • Judy (Gibbons) Hamrick

Al was a special treasure that God brought into our lives so that HIS love could be shared with many.

I had the great priviledge to work with and be friends with Al during his Skagit Gardens years. Al was my shipping office guardian angel that watched over me and was always checking in to see how things were going if he came in during the night shift. I will always remember him for the happy teddy bear that he was.

One memory that stands out for me is the time that I had the reference “Philippians 2:14 & 15” written on the dry erase board in front of my typewriter. Al came in one day and said he had gone home and looked up the passage and was wondering if I had put that on the board because of him. I laughed and laughed. “Al? Since when hasn’t God’s light shone in your life like stars in the universe? I put the reference up to remind me not to grumble and complain.” That was Al… he was a true testimony of God’s love and he never tried to hide that light.

Al has entered HIS gates with thanksgiving in his heart and is now singing praises before his Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord for sharing this wonderful man with us.

  • John Allen Hurn

Allen and grew up togeather when we were boys, I will never forget how he fell off of a big log that we would cross to get to the swiming hole down at the river. He fell into a patch of stinging nettles with just his swim suit on. The woman at the cook shack just tried to cover his small body with cream or any thing to keep that buddy of mine from itching all over. Allen I will see you later in Heaven just wait we all will be there. In Jesus name.

  • Ted & Sherri Cole

I worked with Al at Turner Gas, and I don’t remember a day that he didn’t have a smile on his face. He is a person that made everybody’s day a little brighter, simply one of the nicest people that ever walked this earth. We are so sorry for your loss, and know that he is watching over you from heaven. RIP my friend.

  • Cliff Hurn

I don’t have to tell you what a wonderful man Uncle Al was. My memories as a kid are more collective of the family; sometimes the whole bunch would come to Snohomish for Christmas.

My most vivid memory is working alongside him when I was 16; we were both working at Hurn Shingle that summer (1966). Grandma Evelyn always fixed lunch for the two of us. She would make sandwiches of an entire loaf of bread & Al & I would eat that & sometimes more. I remember that no matter how bad things went at work, Uncle Al would never lose his temper.

I think it might have been that summer that I learned to water ski at Baker Lake. I didn’t have a swimming suit so Uncle Al loaned me some Black Bear denim cut-offs. As I was 145 pounds there was plenty of extra room & we had to tie Al’s belt to hold them up; what a sight I must have been!

Just as I couldn’t fill his jeans, I can never fill his shoes for acts of genuine kindness. Uncle Al was one of those that when he asked how you were, you knew he meant it & he would patiently listen; comment, encourage and up build.

    We will miss Uncle Al.

    Love,

    Cliff

    Dear Darlene and family,
Allan with the love and spirit in his belief radiated out to everyone who came in contact with him. He will be missed by many and especially those who received his warm and loving hugs that we looked forward to each year during Concrete’s Cascade Days. One of Concrete’s great lineman whom I enjoyed playing fooball with. We are all blessed to have known Allan.

  • Ron & Donna Regan

    Dear Darlene and family,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. It doesn’t seem possible that he is gone. I (Ron) had known Al almost all my life and I can’t put into words the loss I feel. When I became a Christian, Al was so happy for me and always had a prayer for me when we talked. He was a great family man and was always talking about his children and grandchkildren. I know he is in a better place now but we are sure going to miss the big guy.

  • Linda Hurn Holly

Allan was a 1st cousin of mine and I remember him holding his arms wide open and hugging me for all he was worth whenever we saw one another. He seemed to be to be a teddy-bear of a man, speaking of his family and his Church and his God with such love and devotion. I am sad for the loss of him on this earth, and for the hard times ahead for his family and friends. But, we know he had faith and he is is a good place awaiting us.

  • Ron and Traci Hurn

  • Debbie & Steven Louden

We will miss Al greatly. He was a wonder Christian and we loved him. We
will miss being greeted by him as we enter the doors of church on Sunday mornings. He always had a smile and a hand extened in greeting for everyone who walked through the doors. Good needed him in heaven and called Al to come home. We are sorrowed at the loss of Al but we rejoice that he is in the presence of our Lord. Our prayers are with Darlene and the family.

  • Ron and Judy Bates

    Dear Darlene and family,
We will always remember Al as a good natured humble man. His strong faith in Christ Jesus was a testimony to us. Judy appreciated so much the comfort Al was to her when she lost her mother. May God’s peace sustain you through this difficult time.

  • Jim and Milynee James

Allan was a wonderful Christian man who would do anything for you. He was a
walking, talking, praying man of God. He was our first sunday school teacher and
a man that had a passion for others to know the Lord as there personal savior.
Even though we have not seen Allan for years we remember him fondly.
    He is rejoicing in heaven!
