Archie Berton (Bert Wiechman) Koenig, 75, of Alger (Sedro-Woolley), passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018.
Archie (Bert) was born in Yakima, WA on October 30, 1942 to Elta Phillips and Fred Raymond Koenig of South Dakota.
He was married to Diane (Jerns) Koenig of Alger for 57 years.
Bert was an Automotive Machinist most of his working career. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing and sought out the fishing areas and species he liked the most. A lot of his earlier time was spent racing cars at Skagit Speedway, even helping at times with the track and its safety fencing and maintenance with Jim Raper. At one point Bert served on the Automotive Machinists Apprenticeship Committee. Most of his life was spent in the Alger community.
Later he enjoyed building and owning Mini Sprint cars that his sons raced at Deming and Hannegan Speedways along with Mission Raceway. Racing was a lifelong pleasure for him. Time with his family and friends was also always important.
Bert is survived by his wife, Diane Koenig of Alger; brother, Raymond; sons; Donald, Michael and Jeff and daughters, Cheryl and Krista along with their spouses; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Koenig and Elta Wiechman and his step-father Don Wiechman.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, June 8, 2018 at the Alger Community Center. Private inurnment was held at the Saxon Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
