Barbara Solwold

Tuesday, November 17th, 2020

Barbara LeAnn Solwold, 73, of Burlington, passed away in her home on November 17, 2020, following a short battle with cancer.  She was able to stay at home, surrounded by her family, until the end, and passed peacefully from this world.

She was born on June 24, 1947, to Lloyd and Norma Edson, and never lived outside of Skagit County.  In 1966, she married her high school sweetheart, Bruce Solwold, with whom she shared 54 years of happy marriage.

Barbara retired from the Burlington-Edison school district after 30 years of service, the majority of which was spent at the high school as the head cook in the central kitchen.

Her greatest joy in life was her family, and nothing gave her greater pleasure than when they all came together for the holidays and special occasions.  She enjoyed travel, cooking, sewing and collecting teddy bears.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce; daughter, Becki and son-in-law, Mike; son, Brad and daughter-in-law Trudi; granddaughters, Hannah and Haylea; brother, Roger (Judy); along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Honoring Barbara’s wishes, there will be no public memorial service.  However, the family would love to hear your thoughts and memories of Barbara by signing the online guest register.

Barb was a loving and kind person and we will always carry her in our hearts. Hopefully you can draw from your memories and each other for support.
We’re imagining Barb with her Mom and Dad, Gram and Grandpa, my Mom and all the other friends and family who have gone before us.

Jerry and I were saddened to hear of Barb’s passing. Her and Bruce were our neighbors for more than 20 years and we shared some good times together. They became like family to us and our children. I still picture her coming home from work, always wearing her apron. I cherish so many of her recipes, mostly her desserts that I have shared with my friends and family. I regret our path’s didn’t cross more in the last few years, but we will always cherish those many wonderful years living next to them. She was a special lady!!!

First of all our condolences to Bruce and family on the loss of Barb. We are neighbors who live in the Farmington Square Community. Many times in the past I would be coming back from my garden where I would stop to chat with Bruce and Barb as they’d quite often be sitting in their garage on nice summer afternoons/early evenings. I was always pleased to share my “bounty” of cherry tomatoes with both Bruce and Barb. Quite often Bruce would remark how much Barb enjoyed those tomatoes and was so pleased to know how much she liked them. Will fondly remember those many visits.

Three weeks ago we had no idea we would not be celebrating the holidays with Barb. This was her favorite time of year and she loved spoiling everyone at Christmas as well as putting about 5 pounds on each one of us at Thanksgiving! Your door was always open and you always made me feel like family from the time we met, and I am very grateful for that. No doubt, life will not be the same without you Barb but your love for all of us will be felt for the rest of our lives and I was so lucky to have you as my mother in law. Fly with angels

I am truly sorry for your loss of Barb. I have known Barb since grade school where we used to go to Birthday parties at her parent’s house in Allen. More recently she would join the Class of 1965 ladies luncheons which were always a lot of fun.
Thanks to Hannah for tagging Barb on FB the day Barb passed otherwise a lot of us would not know we lost a wonderful lady.
