I enjoyed visiting with Bernie at Ashley Gardens when I went there to visit my mother, Addie Hayes. For two years, my mother lived at Ashley Gardens until her death there in March 2011. Bernie had a lovely smile and was very friendly to me. It was a pleasure to visit her as a resident there and an encouragement that my mother had such a positive, pleasant person living there, also.

I did not know she was a former Shaklee Products dealer until I read her obituary. My husband’s parents sold Shaklee products for over 30 years in Yakima County. They retired about eight years ago.

My sympathy to Bernie’s family. I will keep you in my prayers for comfort and peace as you adjust to life without her physical presence (and her beautiful smile). May Christ’s peace be with you.

    Dear Candice and Christine,
My friend Clyde in Seattle sent Bernie’s obituary to me, as he has heard me talk of Bernie. This past year,
I have been trying to find out where Bernie was living, as I heard she moved to a rest home up North.
I tried calling every home that I could find inthe phone book, but no one could give me information, and I
could not remember Christine’s last name.

Bernie and I both were involved in Shaklee. That is how I had come to know her. She was a very generous
person, and we had many lunches and dinners together. We both loved Indian food.

I moved to Montana in 1996, but have talked to her at different times. Sorry I was not able to contact her,
    and sorry for your loss.

    Bless all your family,
    Lillian Stephenson

My twin sister, Joanne McClellan, was a resident of Ashley Gardens, and not very happy, till one day Bernie moved in. Joanne’s attitude changed because of Bernie. She was so kind to Joanne, an encourager. It was always Bernie who smiled as I walked in the door, and waved to me as I left. In March last year Joanne moved to Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood. Thinking of Bernie, I always see that smile!

  • Elaine LaParle

I met Bernie when visiting other residents of Ashley Gardens. She was very sweet and concerned about her fellow residents, and always had a nice smile for me when I came. I will pray for her.
