Bette Detillion

Friday, January 7th, 2022

Bette Irene Detillion, age 83, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022, at Swedish Hospital, Edmonds, WA.  She was born July 27, 1938, in Sedro-Woolley, WA to Thomas and Thelma Mae (Anderson) Mullen.

Bette grew up in Sedro-Woolley and during her school years was known as one of the friendliest girls and had many, many friends.  She used to laugh and had a great sense of humor.  After high school, she worked at a tulip bulb farm before eventually joining Skagit Steel where she met the love of her life, Carl Detillion.  They married on February 11, 1972 and relocated to Mount Vernon before eventually moving to Edmonds.

She enjoyed boating in the San Juan’s which eventually led to RV camping and traveling throughout the entire United States.  For many years, she wintered in Surprise, Arizona.  Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family and good friends both in Washington and Arizona.  Two of her favorite activities were when the family gathered at her home in Sedro-Woolley for the 4th of July Parade and annual family barbecue and also her participation in the women’s weekly putters’ tournament at Happy Trails golf course where she proudly wore her many pins for hole in ones and other achievements.

Bette was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and especially enjoyed participating in the annual Fourth of July hamburger stand along with being a member of the Good Sam RV Club of Skagit County, where she and Carl participated in numerous group camping events.

Bette is survived by her brother, Thomas and his wife, Gloria Mullen of California; daughter, Julie and her husband, Ivory Harris, of Seattle; son, Mark and his wife, Jolene Detillion of Seattle; stepson, Steve and his wife, Elizabeth Detillion of Clear Lake; son in law, Glen Nickel of Oregon; grandchildren, Eron, Autumn, Angie, Dustin, Danielle, Steve Jr., Katelin, David, Ashley, Thomas, Shane, Nicole, Jason, Kira and numerous great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl on June 20, 2011; parents, Thelma Mae (Anderson) and Thomas Mullen; stepdaughter, Karen Nickel and stepson, Keith Detillion.

A Celebration of Bette’s life will be held at 11:00, Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley, WA.  Please keep checking back for the ZOOM link to be offered.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests a donation be made to either the The Alzheimer’s Foundation or to Seattle Children’s Hospital Uncompensated Care Fund or a charity of your choice.

We first met Bette in Beta Sigma Phi. We have shared so many fun things. First our trip to Hong Kong, then my memorable 50th birthday with a motorhome trip to Banff; enroute Carl having a problem with the motorhome, where we were towed to a Provincial park. Celebration there by the fireside. Celebrating the eve of 2000 with the sorority group, when they thought all things would go wrong. Another fun time in the Tucson area exploring out of the way places. Many visits and card games with them in the Surprise area. Bette is missed by us, and all her sorority sisters.
