Betty Jean Edwards

Friday, May 26th, 2023

Betty Jean Edwards, 78, passed away on May 26, 2023 at her home in Sedro-Woolley  from complications of dementia. She was born in Mountain Lake, Minnesota on February 27, 1945, the daughter of Reinhard and Esther Schuknecht.

Betty and the family moved to the Kent area in 1954, where she attended school, going on to become a registered nurse at the Tacoma General School of Nursing in 1965.

Betty met her husband in 1959 and they were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, Washington on December 19, 1964.

They soon moved to Skagit Valley where Betty went to work at United General Hospital and then Community Homewell, where she retired in 2000.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband after retiring and they visited many beautiful places including Alaska and the Yukon, Arizona, and many other areas in the lower 48 states. She enjoyed her home near Sedro-Woolley, especially the pretty flowers she lovingly attended to. She also enjoyed their property at Winthrop and the beauty of the Methow Valley.  Betty enjoyed camping, fishing and hiking with her family and friends.  She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sedro-Woolley.

She leaves behind her husband Allen after 58 years of marriage; two sons, Daniel Edwards, of Sedro-Woolley, and Darren Edwards and his wife Charlotte of Newport, Oregon; two grandsons, Brian Edwards and his partner Teddie, Dustin Edwards, a granddaughter, Angela Bower;  great granddaughter Rhea Elizabeth Edwards; two sisters, Delores Taylor and Janet Biegel; numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Elaine Mausling; granddaughter, Shadow Heller.

Betty was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and great grandmother. She was elated to be able to enjoy her great granddaughter Rhea Elizabeth, even if it was only for a short time.

A private graveside service will be held for family and friends at a later date. Memorials may be given to, and special thanks to, Hospice of the Northwest, 227 Freeway Dr Suite A, Mount Vernon, WA. Share your memories of Betty and sign the online guest register.

Allen – so sorry to hear of your loss. Hope you have many fond memories. Take care.

  • Becky Elias,

We are sad that we have lost such a beautiful person and soul. Betty (sister-in-law, Aunt and Great Aunt to our children and grand children) will forever be in our hearts and memories and will so be missed. Betty was a joy to be around as she was so full of life and made those around her feel loved. Betty was inspirational in her faith and also her career as a devoted nurse who challenged herself with additional medical education.
We were blessed to call her our family and our friend.
    Betty, we love you
    Becky, Jim and family

Our Condolences to Allen, Dan, Darren and extended family, with all our love

So sorry for your loss. I first met Betty and Allen when I worked for the Forest Service out of the Birdsview Ranger Station. Then I worked with Betty at the hospital. Betty was a very kind lady.

My thoughts are with Allen, Dan, Darin and all of their family after hearing of Betty’s passing. Sue and I came to know Allen and Betty when I was hired at the Baker River Raner District in 1972. We became friends through work and spent time together at Forest Service parties & other functions over the years. We also enjoyed time playing pinochle at each other’s houses. Betty was a kind and caring person who we enjoyed knowing as a dear friend. I hope fond memories of her will give the family some comfort as they move through the process of losing her. Rest in peace now Betty….

    With sincere condolences,
    Bob Hulet & family
