Carol Sue Holbrook Perkins, 84, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016.

Sue was born in Virginia on Christmas Day, 1931.   She was a coal miner’s daughter and the youngest of four children.  She attended college in Richmond, VA, earning a degree in Occupational Therapy.

In 1953 Sue married her childhood sweetheart, Tom Perkins.  Tom joined the military and Sue became an Army wife. They traveled many states and countries making countless memories.

Sue loved to hunt, fish, cook, sing, read, give history lessons and watch Columbo.  She made friends easily and was loved by many.

Sue & Tom had two sons, whom she poured a lot of love, life, humor and kindness into.  The family moved to Sedro-Woolley in 1968.  She loved the beauty here, and always wrote to relatives with the words “greetings from the great Pacific Northwest”.   Sue quickly became the “Welcome Wagon Lady” to all the new arrivals in the neighborhood.

Sue & Tom did many things on their farm east of Sedro-Woolley, from raising cattle, to an apple orchard and finally a winery. Everyone referred to her as the “Apple Lady”. When you visited her store she would slice, dice, tell you the history of and best recipes for every variety of apple.  One of her best memories were of giving school tours to all the county schools and teaching and sharing with the children all about apples.  Sue struggled with rheumatoid arthritis thru the years but in spite of it all she always had a smile on her face and never complained.  She will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Sue is survived by her husband of 63 years, Tom Perkins; her sons, Jim Bill Perkins and Thomas Lee Perkins; 5 grandchildren, Mariah, Evan, Amanda, Allison and Thomas James (TJ); her brother, James Holbrook and sister, Joan Cardwell.  She now joins her parents, James & Ruth (Wolfe) Holbrook and a sister Mariam Lowman.  Rest In Peace.

There will be no services at this time.  Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

Our field trips to the “Apple Lady” were the highlights of our 3rd grade classes arranged by fellow teacher, Susan Olsen. Apple Lady Sue was so patient in explaining the growth of apples, science of bees and sometimes off the wall questions. The apple samples were thoughtful and tasty. We left the tour with the impression that WE were the ones who made her day. She will be fondly remembered by numerous Mary Purcell students and families.

Ms. Sue, is by far one of the most amazing women I have been privileged to meet. Her wisdom, sense of humor, love for her family/friends, compassion, work ethics, loyalty, honesty surpass many. I have said it many times she should be remembered as a Saint, she had not a unkind/evil bone in her body. I have no doubt Ms. Sue’s seat in Heaven is made of gold! Her heart was pure! Ms.Sue, thank you for the lessons and kindness you showed me. I will be forever grateful! I love you Ms. Sue, you are free from Earthly pain. Enjoy Columbia! Your friend, Tina
