Charles Spencer Hill

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Our beloved, Husband, Father, Papa and Friend, Charles Spencer Hill, age 66, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, Washington.

He was born June 2, 1944 in Seattle, Washington to Charles Jim Hill and Annie Amelia (Lindstrom) Hill.

Charlie grew up in the Marches Point community of Anacortes, where as a child his family was very active together fishing, hunting, camping and panning for gold.

Later he attended and played football at Mount Vernon High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy at age 17. He was proud to served as a parachute rigger on the aircraft carrier Ticondaroga out of Miramar base in San Diego, California.

He married Jessie (Cotton) Hill in 1967 and returned to Washington to start their family. As a young man Charlie was a jack of all trades and enjoyed building and creating things with his own hands he took great pride in his carpentry, he later followed his father’s footsteps and worked at the Shell Refinery in Anacortes.

Charlie received a degree in drafting from Palomar College in CA, and received a BA in computer programming and graduated from Skagit Valley College.

He enjoyed the freedom of riding his motorcycle, fishing, golfing and photography, in his later years he loved spending time building and working on his computers and helping others.

Charlie again found great joy in July of 2000 when he fell in love and married Debbie Rowland.  Charlie thought it important to help others find the path and volunteered at the Monroe Correctional facility for many years and was honored for his efforts in mentoring in 1997.  He was a member of the Combat Veterans International and a friend of Bill W. Charlie’s door was always open and many had used it, he was a good listener and a straight shooter.

He was a guiding force with a big heart, and a lot of wisdom. Easy dose it he would say.

Charlie is survived by his devoted wife of ten years, Debbie Hill of Sedro-Woolley, and loving children. Daughters, Maleina Hill and Deanna Hill of Ferndale, Angelina (Hill) Del Nagro of Sedro-Woolley.  Step-children, Harold Schrader of Mount Vernon and Keri King of Sedro Woolley.  Six precious grandchildren, Rico, Maleah, Diego, Rocco, Ricky, and Hunter.  He is also survived by his two special four legged companions Missy and Rosko, who he adored and spent much of his time with.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Annie Hill, brother Eugene Hill and sisters, Karen Hill , Diane Ulrich, and Janet Daly.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Grace Church, 2502 N. La Venture Road in Mount Vernon with Pastor Billy Farrar officiating.  A potluck reception will immediately follow.  Please shine up your bikes and join us. Arrangements and cremation are under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro Woolley.

    Dear Charlie Hill family:

I’m so sorry to hear the passing of Charlie. I worked many years with Charlie at Shell (Brown & Root). I enjoyed his company and friendship. Time seems to pass so quick and that we always say we should take the time to visit with friends. Every time I was at the Cranberry Tree his good friend John would update me on what Charlie was doing. If there is anything I can do, please call me (360) 708-9521.
    God bless, Del Carlson
