DALE L. HUSTON, 86, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident and barber, passed away peacefully on Thursday December 30, 2004 at the Mira Vista Care Center in Mount Vernon.
Dale was born on November 23, 1918 in Chambers, Nebraska, the son of Omer Frank & Francis Ethel Elliott Huston. In 1934 the family moved to Hamilton where Dale attended school, was raised on the farm and was surrounded by carpentry.
Dale attended barber school and attained his barbering certificate on November 1, 1939.
During WW II, Dale served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Technician ‘ 4th Grade with the 41st Infantry Division. The 41st Division fought more Campaigns and made more Beachheads in the grim Pacific War than any other division. Dale was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he sustained in battle.
He was united in marriage to Clarice Joan Parker on February 17, 1946 in Sedro-Woolley, and have since made their home there.
For many years Dale owned and operated the Huston Barber shop in Sedro-Woolley, retiring in 1980.
During his working years he also did multiple carpentry jobs, including building two houses. In his retirement they bought property in Winthrop where they spent time fishing and snow skiing.
Dale was a quiet man but had great whit and a great sense of humor. His loving smile will be greatly missed.
Dale is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Joan at the family home in Sedro-Woolley. His daughter and son-in-law, Gail & Jackson Browning of Sedro-Woolley and his son and daughter-in-law, Doug & Jane Huston of Bluffton, Ohio. 5 grandchildren, Clinton & Rose Nicholas, Douglas & Brandon Huston and Mike Turan Beth. 2 great-grandsons, Tyler & Cody Turan. 2 sisters, Laree Baker Newt and Francis Hayes of Mount Vernon and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Omer Frank & Francis Ethel Huston, 3 brothers, Don, Omer and Duane and 5 sisters, Bernice, Laverne, Alda, Ethel and Clarice. The family would like to give a special thank you to Skagit Hospice and suggests that memorials be made to the Skagit Hospice in Dale’s memory.
A Life Celebration will be held on Tuesday January 4, 2005 at 2:00 PM at the Central Valley Assembly of God Church, 1551 East Rio Vista in Burlington with Pastor David Holt officiating.
Visitation will be available at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley on Monday & Tuesday, January 3rd & 4th from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Private inurnment will be at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.
