Daniel Russell Coward, 78, a longtime Concrete area resident, passed away at his home on Monday, January 19, 2015.
Russell was born in Cowarts, North Carolina on December 2, 1936, the son of James & Lillie (Moore) Coward. He was raised and attended school near Sylva, NC.
In the mid 1950’s he came to Skagit County, residing in Clear Lake. He was united in marriage to Bessie “Pod” Fox in Lyman on April 8, 1958 and they lived in Clear Lake until moving to Birdsview in the late 1970’s.
In the early 1960’s Russell began working for Janicki Logging. He started with setting chokers, then operated heavy equipment building roads and then worked as a Foreman. Russell was very dedicated to the Janicki Logging Company, where he worked for nearly 50 years, earning the respect of his crew, young and old. He was affectionately known by his crew and fellow loggers as “Budweiser” or “Budman”.
Russell was an avid pool player, hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his crew.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Brenda & Randy Geary and Pam & Armond Mottet of Sedro-Woolley, Danny Coward & Cecily Moore of Rockport and Paul & Mandee Coward of Pierce, ID; his sisters, Margaret Coggins of Darrington and Joann Roberts of Marysville; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and his former daughter-in-law, Gloria Gilbert. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bessie; brothers, Ray, R.B., David & Carl Coward and sisters, Ella Mae Franks & Mary Brown.

Woolley, WA 98284.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. A time of visitation will be available on Wednesday thru Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
This is a familiar man, as I see his face in my family home every day in North Carolina. My dad, Ralph Bell used to spend a lot of his hunting hours with Russell and Earn Fox. They have a group picture with their dogs and a bear hunt. This is on the TV in Franklin. North Carolina. Andy Ensley is also in this picture. Dad is 87 and we moved away from Hamilton in 1970.

Budman was a great guy to work with. He always liked to tease and joke a little. He always had good stories to tell. Budman was a great log loader & equipment operator. I enjoyed shooting pool with him at Evlynne’s when he lived in Clear Lake. I will miss him.
What a good man…taught me way more than I wanted to know about hunting and camping and bears..One of the best men I’ve ever met…always treated me lie pamily..my prayers are with you Pam and family.
Russ was an amazing man. He was always smiling. I seemed to make him laugh everyone I had the privilege of him coming in for a steak dinner when I worked at Lyman Tav. And a few months back when he’d stopped in at Boots Bar. I will miss him very much. I love you Russell Coward. Ill never forget you.
