DeMaris Bounds

DeMaris Bounds

Friday, January 6th, 2017

DeMaris was born near Pierre, South Dakota to Ernest M. and Edna M. (Small) Johnston, where she spent her early childhood. The family moved to a farm in Avon, WA when she was a small child and grew up around Sedro-Woolley area. She had an amazing kind and adventurous spirit as well as a playful sense of humor. As a young woman in the 50s, she was the one of the first women in competitive speed boat racing in the Corvallis and Lincoln City areas. She and her best friend Carrie, who called her “Penny” while they waitressed in their youth, later took a cruise to China, Thailand and Japan to celebrate reaching their 70s. Throughout her life she loved the outdoors: camping, hunting, gold panning, gardening and indoors she loved bowling and square dancing.  She lived in her home in southern Oregon for 43 years, spending many hours landscaping her acre of land and leaves behind many wonderful friends in the Myrtle Creek, Oregon area.

She is survived by her loving family; DeMaris (Debbie) Schollmeyer, DeEdna (Candy) Etten and Derry Blouin as well as adoring grandchildren, DeMaris Shawn Schollmeyer, Frank Blouin, Darcy (Blouin) Vance, Dustin Blouin, Derrin Blouin, Darlene Etten, Rusty Etten and Paul J (PJ) Young; eleven great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews and cousins.  She took great delight in all of her grand and great-grandbabies.  She was preceded by her parents; brothers, Donnie W. Johnston, and Ernest DeWayne (Popeye) Johnston; sister, Delores Jungquist Hinthorn; her sons, Douglas Baney, Donnie Baney and Dean A. Blouin and granddaughter, Misty Etten.

Her impish sense of humor, kindness and sense of play will be greatly missed.

“We’re from pioneer stock”…stay strong and move forward, be kind to everyone and love your kin that’s how she lived her life.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley, followed by interment at Greenhills Memorial Cemetery, Burlington.  A potluck Celebration of Life will be held at Sandy Nelson’s home in Bow, Washington following the service for her son Dean.  Please share your memories of DeMaris and sign the online guest register.

A memorial celebration will be held January 21, 2017 at 1:30 pm in Myrtle Creek, Oregon for friends and family in the area.

I was just contacted and was heartbroken to hear of my grandmas passing. I remember when i was young i lived with her for a time, she bought me a BMX bike. Years later she told me she still had the bike, and was using it to ride around the grape vineyard to collect grapes. I had hoped that when i returned to the west coast she would be able to see the young woman my daughter D. Angel has grown into, and meet my son Phoenix, as well as my baby on the way. I will miss her greatly. Even though there were long periods between us seeing eachother, i have always cherished the times we did. I love you grandma and you are always in my heart.
    Love, PJ

Grandma Bounds will be greatly miss by us all. We were blessed that she was able to be at the birth of our second daughter Savannah, and that Elaina had the opportunity to spend a week there in OR with her Grandma last fall. We will remember her by her sharp wit, caring nature, and adventurous spirit. She truly experienced a full life that we all hope to live.
