Dorothy Lavada (Parker) Wood, 95 of Lyman, WA passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022. Two weeks before she celebrated her 95th birthday with family, enjoying her son’s special pineapple upside down cake, which was her favorite.
She was born on November 10, 1927 to Holmes B. and Mary Etta (Henry) Parker in the Great Smoky Mountains near Caney Fork, North Carolina.
Dorothy married her childhood sweetheart, William ‘Hubert’ Wood on March 5, 1946, 7 days after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy. They were married for 62 years and had 3 sons, Ron, Don and Darrell.
Dorothy and her son Ron traveled by train from North Carolina to Washington in 1952 to meet up with Hube, who was already working. They bought their first home that same year, where they resided until 2022.
She was a stay-at-home mom for most of her adult life. She took special care of some local elderly folks and volunteered at the local food bank for many years. She was also part of a women’s group who would gather and create beautiful, handstitched quilts. These quilts were mostly for a new addition to one of the group’s family or for each other.
Dorothy is survived by her 3 sons, Ron (Irina), Don (Patty) both of Sedro-Woolley, Darrell (Diane) of Arlington; 8 grandchildren, Scott, Travis (Rachel), Natalie (Aturo), Karen (John), Todd (Jessica), Chris (Ashley), Katee (Brenan), Wesley (Stefanie); 14 great grandchildren, Emma, Gracie, Lexi, Ryker, Lacy, Easton, Annie, Cheyanne, Kaysha, Sonja, Jazzlyn, Daniel (Gina), Brett (Ashley), Nick (Krithika); 3 great great grandchildren, Remi, Cooper, Calvin; sister-in-law, Joan Parker; brother-in-law, Lester Lloyd; numerous nieces and nephews; former daughters-in-law, Mysty and Gail; former granddaughter-in-law, Tami.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Vernon, Harry, Junior, Matt, Arnold, Louie; sisters, Bonnite, Marie, and Fanny Mae.
A special thanks to neighbor Calvin Huscusson and Josie Zamora for their many years of checking on Dorothy and helping in so many ways. Thanks to Calvin for building a fire each morning for her. Their friendship and kindness are greatly appreciated by her family.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00, Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the Lyman Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the Lyman Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eden Health (Hospice) 1315 E. Division St., Mt. Vernon, WA 98273, or the Town of Lyman Cemetery, or The Town of Lyman Park Fund, both at P.O. So sorry for your loss. We pray for God’s comfort as you gather to remember your Mom and Grandmother.
Aunt Dorothy,
Will always remember our walks around Lyman and working in the garden, especially our talks, and enjoying those greenbeans and cornbread, I love you and will miss you. Tammie Kay
Much love my sweet grandmother, you will always be remembered in the laughter of your grandbabies.
Thank You for teaching us boys very important values in life. Will think of you often and will carry on these values for the rest of my life for sure.
May our Lord God take this child to walk with him and send extra love and respect to everyone that she ever talked to. God bless her soul.
