E. JUNE SWIHART, 96, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on Saturday April 12, 2003 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley.
She was born on June 16, 1906 in Woodward, Iowa, one of nine children of George & Jessie Woodard James. She was raised in Iowa and Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Clifton Swihart in Redfield, South Dakota on July 13, 1927 and they made their home in Adel, Iowa. They came to Skagit County in 1940, living at Big Lake and then Sedro-Woolley. Over the years June worked as a telephone operator, a store clerk at the ‘five & dime’, for the Sedro-Woolley Laundry and for 17 years as a psychiatric attendant at Northern State Hospital. She was active in volunteering her time to the Sedro-Woolley Senior Center and to her church, The Township Street Church of Christ now Cascade Christian Church. She enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing at Big Lake, her church and her Bible studies.
June was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifton in 1981, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
She is survived by 1 sister, Cora Kudrle and her family of Cochise, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews in Washington & Iowa. Local family includes LaVona Eikleberry, Shirley & Bill Richter and Alberta and Blanche Swihart. Memorials are suggested to the Cascade Christian Church or a favorite charity.
A Graveside Committal Service will be held Thursday, April 17, 2003 at 2:00 PM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. A Memorial Service will also be held that day at the Cascade Christian Church in Sedro-Woolley at 7:00 PM. Pastors Tim Farnham and Bill Heberling officiating.
