Ed Johnson

Thursday, March 15th, 2018

Ed Johnson passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018.

He was born in Geneva, Illinois in 1947 and grew up in Batavia. He made his way ‘out west’ after college to pursue forestry. Ed enjoyed his retirement from the U.S. Forest Service after 35 years working in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie Ranger District.

He was an avid book buyer and collector. His book collection was only rivaled by that of his tools, allowing him to create kitchens, cabinets and burl clocks with his wife.

He is survived by his wife Karen, son and daughter.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. The Johnson family wishes to acknowledge Hospice of the Northwest, family and friends, for all their loving and professional care for Ed during his final days.  Share your memories of Ed and sign the online guest register.

Our hearts are heavy with your loss, but having had our father pass over from ALS, we know the blessed release this passing brings for Ed. We send our love and prayers to the entire family. Ed is now free to be. We’ll all feast together, once again, on the other side, and a very long table.
    (Cousins of Heather Hartman Johnson.)

Our most sincere condolences go out to the Johnson family in their time of loss. It’s never easy to loose a loved one, but be at peace that Ed now finally will rest without any discomfort or pain. You’ve welcomed our daughter into your family graciously and we thank you for your son joining ours. You’re in our thoughts and prayers today as you move into the “new normal”, and send Ed on his way.
    Love & Peace to all.

Karen & Ed’s wedding was joyful & a celebration of two kind soul’s joining together. Will not forget Karen’s mom Joanne was so embraced with love for her daughter & new son. Such a joy to be a part of that celebration. Karen & I have been life long friends for 40 years. Weaving in & out of each other’s life. Ed was always welcoming & happy when you would come & visit. When Karen would tell me about Ed leaving the comfort of his home to travel to another state to fight forest fires it was just mind boggling. He was retired from the forest service & at his age this would require fortitude & commitment. Thank you Ed for your courage & your stamina. Really nice to know you. Karen & Doug & Katie sending you love & Karen your devotion & care for Ed is absolutely remarkable.

Ed, Karen, Doug, and Katie Johnson have all held a special place in our family’s history for nearly three decades. We count them as dear friends and were saddened when Ed passed this week. Finally, though, his long period of suffering with the ravages of ALS is over. Over the past couple of years I got to know Ed better and enjoyed having a beer and watching sporting events or just sitting in the sun with him. Ed was a one-of a kind individual as all who knew him can attest. We are here to help the family in any way needed and will remember Ed always and with fondness. Rest in peace my friend.

Our thoughts are with Karen and the rest of Ed’s family at this time of loss. I enjoyed working with Ed for many years during my time with the rest of the crew on the Mt. Baker Ranger District. Ed will always be in my memory as a gentle, caring, hard-working, and sincere person. May the fond memories of time spent with him help you transition through this difficult time. Rest in peace Ed…..

    With our deepest sympathy,
