Elane Winnifred Mahaffy, 87, a longtime Hamilton area resident, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley.
Elane was born on September 4, 1920 in Sedro-Woolley, the daughter of Albert & Alvena Lane Ovenell. She was raised and attended school in Sedro-Woolley, graduating from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1938. On July 15, 1939 Elane was united in marriage to George S. Mahaffy and they soon settled on their family farm just east of Hamilton where they lived and worked for the rest of their lives. George preceded her in death in 1987.
Elane loved to read the Bible and play hymns on the piano. She always had a large garden and was a partner with her husband, helping him work the farm while raising their family.
In her later years she enjoyed creating greeting cards from pressed flowers and leaves she carefully collected from the farm. Her favorites being four leaf clovers and forget-me-nots, to remind us not to forget God. She is loved by all that knew her and will be truly missed by her family, friends and Church family at Hamilton Baptist Church where she has been a longtime member. She cherished every minute she was outdoors observing God’s creations.
Besides her husband, Elane was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Oscar and a daughter, Dorathea.
She is survived her 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia & Gary Jones of Bonney Lake, WA, Georgiann & Joaquin Martines of Fayetteville, Texas and Aileen & Randy Good of Sedro-Woolley. A brother, Fred Ovenell and his wife, Dorothy of Sedro-Woolley and a sister, Marian Dunphy and her husband, Dick of Marysville, WA. 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorials in memory of Elane are suggested to the Hamilton Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Hamilton Baptist Church with Pastor Ron Edwards officiating. Private family interment will follow at the Hamilton Cemetery. Visitation is available at and services under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
