Eleanor A. Martin passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2002 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was 88 years of age. She was born on May 16, 1914 in Port Orange, New Jersey the daughter of Joseph and Hilja Hanson Hjelstrom. She was raised and attended school in St. Claire, N.J. She received her college degree and taught school in various locations. She married Kenneth Martin on September 13, 1944 in Sydney, Australia and traveled all over the world with her husband who was a career military man. They moved to Marblemount, WA and later to Mount Vernon, WA. She went to work as a supervisor for the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, working in King and Skagit Counties. She retired and moved with her husband to Ocean Shores, WA where they lived for 30 years. Eleanor enjoyed swimming, was a first aid instructor and liked to paint. She was a member of the Ocean Shores Community Club, AARP, the Retired Public Employees Council of Washington. She is survived by 1 brother, Irving Hjelstrom and his wife Peggy of Carmichael, Ca., 2 sister-in-laws; Hope Martin and Winnie Martin, both of Sedro-Woolley; 1 brother-in-law, Harry Martin of Tuson, Arizona, numerous nieces and nephews.
At Eleanors request there will be no services. Cremation was under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
