Elmer Edward Martin, 92, a lifetime Burlington resident, passed away at his home on Thursday, August 11, 2016 surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 28, 1924 in Burlington.  Elmer graduated from Burlington-Edison High School in 1943.  Shortly after graduation Elmer served his county in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Elmer was united in marriage to Mabel Willard in 1953.

Elmer was a truck driver, driving for Home Transfer, Stokely and Northern Freight lines.  He hauled heavy equipment for most of the loggers in the 1960’s.  Also during that time he subdivided land in what is now Samish River Park.

In the early 1970’s he and Mabel went to Arizona and were instrumental in building two Mobile Parks in Apache Junction, Arizona. After retirement he enjoyed fishing on Vancouver Island.

Elmer was a member of the Elks and a longtime member of the American Legion Post 91 in Burlington.

Elmer is survived by his wife Mabel; son, Paul and his wife Marsha; sister, Evelyn Youngquist; special niece, Deann Johnson (Curt) and nephews, Larry Youngquist (Sandi) and Andrew Willard (Bari).  He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and  Beulah Martin.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at the Burlington Cemetery on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 11:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of his life at the Cedar Point Club House, 1155 Decatur Circle, Burlington.

The family wants to thank Hospice of the Northwest for their loving care and support during his final days.  Memorials are suggested to the Allen United Methodist Church, 16775 Allen West Rd, Bow, WA 98232 or the charity of your choice.

Visitation will be available on Monday & Tuesday from 9 AM to 5 PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley.
