Eloise Stendal

Wednesday, November 14th, 2018

Eloise Marith (Ingman) Stendal passed away peacefully on Friday, October 26, 2018.  She was born in Mount Vernon, WA on February 9, 1929, the only daughter of John C. and Ethel Marith Ingman.  Her parents and her three brothers, Ken, Win, and Dave Ingman are deceased.

She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1946, Mount Vernon Junior College in 1948, and Western Washington University in 1952, where she also earned an M.A. Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1971.

Eloise embraced teaching as a calling and found young children fascinating. She served as a teacher for 28 years in Bellingham, Burlington, and Sedro-Woolley, WA, as well as in Butzbach, Germany.  After her retirement, she was active in her church, retired teachers association, hospital commission, and as a reading tutor.  She also became a world traveler, visiting all continents, except Antarctica.

Eloise’s early memories of her life include five idyllic years at Meadow, WA, three miles South of Mount Vernon on the Skagit River, where her mother was a teacher. She lived a life of free abandon there, roaming from farm to farm, getting to know all the animals and the farmers. She treasured those memories! Also, she loved swimming and was a pool regular to the end!

Her beloved husband of 67 years, Bill, passed away on February 22, 2017. Eloise is survived by their two children, who were the delight of her life, Mark Stendal and his wife Becky of Sammamish, WA, Mary and her husband Graham Edwards of White Rock, B.C., and three grandchildren, who brought exceptional joy to her life: Samantha Stendal of North Hollywood, CA, Cole Edwards and his wife, Whitney, and Keaton Edwards of White Rock, B.C., and fifteen cherished nieces and nephews and their families.

She and her husband, Bill, lived their retirement years as poet Robert Browning wrote: “Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be, the last of life for which the first was made: Our times are in His hand who said, ‘A whole I planned, Youth shows but half; Trust God: see all, nor be afraid.’”

Eloise loved life and lived it fully. Her faith in God provided the foundation for a faith that never faltered. She trusted God to see her through the good times as well as the bad, and He never let her down. She is now spending eternity with Him.

Memorial Services will be held at the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church at 2 pm, on Friday, November 23, 2018, with Pastor Dan Holland officiating.
