Ernest “Bud” Parker

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Ernest “Bud” Parker passed away at home on February 29, 2012. Bud was born to Ernest and Freda (Good) Parker, in Birdsview, at his parents’ home on December 15, 1937.

Bud attended Sedro-Woolley High School and then graduated from Oregon State University with a Teaching Certificate. Bud taught school, first in Reedsport, Oregon, then Petersburg, Alaska, South Kitsap High School and eventually in the Concrete School District. Bud was a favorite of many school kids over the years both as a dedicated school teacher and as a wrestling coach. He also logged in Alaska and in the Skagit Valley.

Bud is survived by his wife, Nancy, at their home; daughter, Connie, of Omak; two sons, Ernie, of Lyman and Joel, of Concrete; stepsons, Brett Pemmant and his wife, Kim and Bart Pemmant and his wife Jo; fourteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren with a third on the way; sister, Bobbie Lane, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Parker.

A memorial is being planned for a later date.

We are so sorry to hear about Bud. Our condolences go to Nancy and the family. Bud was clearly one of my heros and someone I modeled myself after going through high school and college. He was bright as a whip, and incredibly skilled as a wrestler who I watched and marveled at both in his high school and college career–quick, tough, smart, tenacious and . . . successful! His bright smile always made you feel welcomed and special and his infectious laugh constantly proved he looked at the bright and light side of life. Even though he was a wiz at math and most other subjects he tackled and he had all kinds of reasons to strut about, he never did. Bud was well-grounded in what was important–family, friends, a strong work ethic and making people know they were valued . We’ve very sorry to have lost Bud.

My condolences to the Parker family. I didn’t know Bud that well, and the last time I saw him was at the state wrestling tournament in 1955. I was impressed by his skill and dedication as a wrestler and equally impressed by his sportsmanship. I could see that Bud was a good person and as I have attended wrestling matches over the years I have often wondered what Bud was doing with his life. After learning Bud was a teacher I could see that he would have a lot to offer young people as a role model. I will still remember Bud, especially when I attend wrestling matches. I will rejoice for having known Bud for that brief moment of time in my life.

May God Bless you and keep you right now as you work through this time of deepest sorrow. Uncle Bud and his big grin will be missed by hundreds (yes, hundreds) of people he touched. He used to elbow me from time to time at family dinners and ask me if I was sure we (him and I) were a part of this as he swept his hand in front of the “Matier” family. He loved to joke and tease and he was good at it. I miss him. RIP Uncle Bud.

Nancy, sure sorry to hear this sad news. Bud was a great guy, we had a lot of fun fishing in Canada and our logging days in Alaska. He really got a kick out of our time with that killer whale at Nootka. Take Care and Joann and I are thinking of you. Keith

    Dear Nancy & Family,
Words cannot describe how sad I was to hear of Bud’s passing. He was such a wonderful person and I loved growing up right next door. Spending most of my childhood playing in your big fenced in yard or down in the basement playing foosball with Joel. Hearing “Hey Trace” everytime I walked in, which was probably every day. Bud and Nancy were like second parents to me. Whenever I would run into Bud after I moved away he still had the most welcoming smile and he would give me a big hug. Im so sorry for your loss but also sorry that the community lost such a kind and good soul.
