Saturday, February 7th, 2015

Etta Mae (Slattery) Madlung passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the age of 87 years, surrounded by her family.

Etta was born on August 7, 1927 in Beloit, Wisconsin to John (Jack) & Carrie Slattery. She was the youngest of 9 children and moved to Sedro-Woolley when she was just three weeks old, arriving in the back of a flatbed truck with her 8 brothers & sisters.

After graduating from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1946 she was united in marriage to Edwin Madlung. She worked as an LPN at Northern State Hospital until its closure and then worked at other nursing facilities, as well as caring for many relatives, neighbors and friends.

Etta loved to paint, go trailer camping, dig geoducks and shuck oysters with friends and relatives.

In later years, she and her friends enjoyed “The Office” at least once a week, and were always going out to lunch somewhere. Etta was a 25 year member of the Samish Grange and belonged to the Samish Ladies Pioneer Club.

She was preceded in death by her father, John; mother and step-father, Carrie and Oscar Missicapp; brothers, Verlin, John, Hank, Ralph and Paul; sisters, Florence, Letha and Margaret and in 1988 her husband Edwin Madlung.

Etta is survived by her sons, Jerry Madlung (Diane) and Mike Madlung (Beverly) of Mount Vernon; sister-in-law, Charmaine Slattery of Sedro-Woolley; grandchildren, Krista (Madlung) Salinas of Sedro-Woolley, Jason Madlung (China Kay) of Shoreline and Melissa Madlung of Mount Vernon; great-grandsons, Sage Kay and Quentin Salinas and many nieces and nephews from Alaska to Maryland.

A Celebration of Etta’s Life will be held at the Samish Grange #926, 4320 State Route 9, north of Sedro-Woolley on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.  Bring stories to share.
