Georgianne Mathis

Friday, January 4th, 2019

Georgianne Louise “Georgia” (Schryer) Mathis, 75, longtime resident of Birdsview, WA, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2018 at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham with her loving family by her side. She was a loving wife, mother, grandma, sister and friend to many.

Georgia was born in Sedro-Woolley on June 23, 1943 to Robert and Veda (Stewart) Schryer, the youngest of six children.

She married James E. Mathis on August 17, 1962 and they raised their three children, Jim, Sonya, and Vanessa in Hamilton and Concrete.

Georgia worked for Dynes Farms, Sakuma Brothers, and retired from National Frozen Foods.

She loved her flower garden and growing vegetables for cooking and canning. She was also creative with her garage sale and thrift store finds. She loved spoiling her babies and old friends.  She always had everyone laughing, even down to how she parked her car. She loved ‘hittin’ the road to go to town’ or go to the casino with her partners in crime (her sisters).  Georgia’s, (and Jim’s) pride and joy was their only grandson, Zachary, whom they loved dearly.

Georgia is survived by her 3 children, Jim Mathis, Sonya Zyskowski (Mike) and Vanessa Blair (Scott); grandson, Zachary Zyskowski; sisters, Barb Medford, Veryle Hitt and Gerry Adams, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; brother, Bill Schryer; sister, Phyllis Queen; brothers-in-law, Roy Queen, Glen Adams and Don Hitt; nephews, Wayne Queen and Mike Adams and nieces, Carolyn Scott and Donna Medford.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in the spring and announced at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
