Gordon C. Hockett passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at the Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, WA at the age of 85 years. He was born November 7, 1917 in Frazee, Minnesota the son of Raymond and Edna Day Hockett. Gordon grew up in Fairbury, Nebraska and attended 9 schools in 9 years. He was married to Sadie Allshouse on April 2, 1937 in O’Neil, Nebraska and in November of that year he moved to Concrete and resided there for 5 years. They then resided at Wickersham for 25 years later moving to Bellingham for 5 years and finally returning to Skagit County residing at Birdsview and Sedro-Woolley for a number of years. For the past year Gordon resided with his daughter Edna in Concrete. Gordon worked as a log truck driver and at one time owned and operated J.H.C. Shake Mill in Birdsview.
He is survived by a son Ray and his wife Eva Hockett of Wickersham and two daughters Janice and her husband Loren Mathis of East Wenatchee and Edna and her husband Kenneth Corne of Concrete. 8 grandchildren Debra Staton, Daniel Hockett, Duane Hockett, Rodney Hall, Jeff Hall, Gregory Hall, Arlene Grimbly, and Michael Corne and numerous great grandchildren.
Sisters Ruth Joy of Yakima Miriam Joy Kennedy of Ryderwood, WA and Shirley Joy Lambert of Garland, TX. Brothers Rollin Joy of Goshen, WA and Lowell Joy of Mount Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sadie in 1970, a brother Perham Hockett and his longtime companion Otha Cook who passed away in March of this year.
Funeral Services will be Monday June 9, 2003 at 11:00AM at Lemley Chapel with Pastor Robert Dillard of the Little Brown Chapel of Wickersham officiating. Burial will follow at the Hamilton Cemetery with a reception to follow the services at the Cascade Christian Church on Township in Sedro-Woolley.
