Gordon Levi Schulze, Sr., 79, a former Skagit Valley area resident passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2010 in Wenatchee, Washington.

He was born on October 7, 1930 in Elm Spring, South Dakota, the son of Herbert & Grace (Johnston) Schulze.

In 1936 the Schulze family moved to the Birdsview area and Gordon attended grade school in Birdsview   and Hamilton until the family moved to Burlington and he attended Burlington High School.

During the Korean Conflict, Gordon served his country for four years in the U.S. Air Force.     

After his discharge he returned to the Skagit Valley and worked at the Lone Star cement plant in Concrete and then as a deckman at shake & shingle mills in Clear Lake & Birdsview.

In 1963 he was united in marriage to Ethel Mae Robinson and they made their home in Concrete, and from that union his son, Gordon Jr. was born.

On December 14, 1985 he married Martha “Martie” Warwick Michelsen in Sedro-Woolley and they made their home in Hamilton until moving to Burlington in 1995.

Gordon enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, playing pool, and sitting around the camp fire singing.  His favorite holiday was Easter.

He is survived by his son, Gordon Schulze, Jr. and his wife Teresa of East Wenatchee, WA.  Two grandsons, Justin and Trevor Schulze and a granddaughter, Nicole Barger (Adam) all of East Wenatchee.   His brother, Julius Schulze and his wife, Maria of Birdsview. Three sisters, Della Allen of Sandpoint, Idaho, Bonnie Wolfe of Concrete and Lueise Bennett of Newburg, Oregon. 5 Step-children, Tom Jenkins, Bill & Mary Lewis, and Vicky & Jeff Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Martie; six brothers, Evert, Alvin, Walter, Herbert, Ralph and Albert Schulze; two sisters, Willmetta Ryan and Virginia Pease and several in-laws and extended family.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Hamilton Cemetery with Pastor Jim Cannon officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
