Grady W. Mills, age 78, passed away Monday, June 9, 2008 at his home near Concrete, Washington as the result of a heart attack.
He was born September 3, 1929 in Moses Creek, North Carolina to John Robert and Lula Bell Watson Mills. Grady grew up in North Carolina and was married to his best friend, Mattie Conner on June 1, 1958 in Sylva, NC and they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 1st. They moved out to Washington and resided in Auburn for 7 ½ years, later moving to Mukilteo for 22 ½ years and eventually moving to Concrete in 1991. Grady worked for the Boeing Co for 18 years as a machinist.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but he will be remembered for his ability to build anything and always working in his shop. Grady loved to play the banjo and play and listen to Bluegrass music. He accomplished 2 goals in his life that were important: Fishing in Alaska and hunting and shooting a buffalo in Idaho.
Grady is survived by his wife, Mattie Mills of the family home in Concrete. 3 daughters; Brenda Gillock and her husband Robert of Birdsview, Katy Mills and her husband Henry Robledo of Birdsview, and Nelda Mills of Marysville. 6 grandchildren; Sarah and Heather Gillock, Robert Gillock Jr. and his wife Tara, Cody Mills, Katy Hammondtree, and Kimberly Riddles. 8 great- grandchildren; Kylee, Sarah, and Alyssa Hammondtree, Christopher, Matthew, and Brady Riddles, Adawnya Ceirrelo, and Robert Gillock III.
5 sisters; Elizabeth Conner and Ruth Stevens of Sylva, NC, Shirley Buchanan of Waynesville, NC, Martha Jaquith of Arkansas, and Roberta Benner of Salem, OR and a brother; Don Mills of Birdsview. 5 half brothers; Finley, Dewey, Zeb, Wayne, and Ferry Mills and 3 half sisters; Marrar Hodges, Winnie Sutton, and Nel Griggs. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Donna Mills, a grandson Eric Mills, and 3 sisters; Hazel Shifflet, Ann Schuler, and Doris Mathis.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 10:30 AM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Duane Stixrud of the Wildwood Chapel officiating with interment to follow at the Hamilton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Heart Association.
