Hazel Hooper a longtime resident of Hamilton and Sedro-Woolley went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 14, 2002 at the Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, WA at the age of 83 years. She was born July 30, 1919 in Jackson County, North Carolina the daughter of Columbus and Avalee Queen Sitton. Hazel grew up in North Carolina and was married to Thomas E. ‘Red’ Hooper on June 27, 1936 in Jackson County, North Carolina. She and Red moved to Hamilton, Wa in February of 1948 and resided there till his passing when she later moved to Sedro-Woolley. Hazel was a avid reader, enjoyed needle work, crossword puzzles, and cooking as well as making quilts which she made for each of her children and grandchildren. She was known for her sense of family history and genealogy and a source for other families. Hazel was a member of the Hamilton Baptist Church who loved to read her Bible and had a deep and abiding faith in God. She is survived by her 2 sons Tom Hooper Jr of Bellingham, and Bob and his wife Marilyn Hooper of Camano Island, WA. 2 daughters Inavee Cargile and her husband Ken of Sedro-Woolley, WA and Shirley Knapp and her husband Patrick of Sedro-Woolley, WA. 12 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great Great Grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas ‘Red’ Hooper in 1977, a daughter Thelma Johnson, a grandson Jerry Hooper, and a sister Ethel McMahan.
A Service to Honor Hazel’s Life will be Saturday, August 17, 2002 at 1:00 PM at Lemley Chapel with Pastor Rick Miles of the Day Creek Chapel officiating. Interment will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to your favorite charity. Vistitation will be Friday, August 15th from 9AM to 5PM and 7PM to 8PM at Lemley Chapel.
