I’m struggling with this, dad. You’ve been so far away for so much of my life that it doesn’t really feel like you’ve actually gone. At the same time I feel like I’ve been grieving your loss ever since you moved to the States when I was a little girl nearly 40 years ago.

I remember having to run so fast to keep up with you when you walked me to school; seeing you hoist the flag on the RAF Turnhouses base when I was on the bus; watching Some Mother’s Do ‘Ave ‘Em with you and laughing; trying to teach me the Bontempi organ; teaching me to swim, to ride a bike; singing with you while you played guitar.

I remember how proud you were when I played clarinet in my first concert. You bought me a box of chocolates. Also remember how cross you were when I spent my 50p pocket money buying sweets for my friends.

I think I’ve got my sense of humour from
you and my love of music. And maybe my temper/stubbornness. Grandma Mc told me as a toddler you’d just sit down in the middle of the street if you were having a tantrum and refuse to move!

We’ve had a very rocky road you and I. I wish things could have been different. I wish you could have opened up more. I wish you could have shown me that you understood what I’d been trying to tell you all my life.

But I love you and I know you loved me.

Stuey, very sad you are gone. Your sense of humor was such a mix of dark sarcasm and British wit and you always had a way to put a smile on someone else’s face. Great respect to you as many tears are shed. We all miss you, you cheeky bugger.

Karen- you were so blessed by your sweet husband. Even though I met you and Stuart a million years ago and haven’t seen you in awhile. I cherish the times we spent.

He was so funny and clever. I remember some great times at your house in Mount Vernon and your beautiful wedding.

Prayers to you and your whole family. God blessed you with the time you had with him. You will heal.

    Much love!!

Stuart you will be greatly missed. I fondly remember your cheeky sense of humour and the way you used to tease me. I never called you Uncle as there was less than 3 years between us, you were more like a big brother to me when we were growing up.
Good night and God Bless my friend. Sweet dreams.

I never met Stuart, but did speak to him many times at the florist. He was kind, funny and had many stories of Karen to past along to me. May God be with you and your family Karen during your time of need.

We’re so sorry to hear of Stuart’s passing; he was a kind and gentle soul, and will surely be missed. We wish to express our sincere sympathy & condolences at this time.
Do not stand at my grave and weep, I’m not there, I do not sleep. I’m a thousand winds that blow; I’m the diamond glint on snow. I’m the sunlight on ripened grain; I’m the gentle Autumn’s rain. When you wake in the morning’s hush, I’m the swift uplifting rush, of quiet birds in circling flight. I’m the soft star that shines at night. Do no stand at my grave and cry, I’m not there, I did not die.

Stuart was a wonderful man. He always had a smile to share and was so welcoming. When you walked into a room you knew there would be some good laughs awaiting you. He was quite entertaining with his great sense of humor. He was humble and kind and never spoke unkindly about anyone. He loved Karen so much and his eyes twinkled when he looked at her!! I am honored to call myself friend to Stuart and Karen. Stuart’s illness was long and hard. Even then he kept his sense of humor and humble spirit fighting hard to be well. You will be missed Stuey.
