Jean Robertson McIntyre passed away at her home in Big Lake on Monday August 12, 2002 at the age of 81 years. She was born July 15, 1921 in San Francisco, CA the daughter of William and Grace Mills Robertson. During World War II, she served as a member of the first contingent of the Women’s Army Corps and achieved the rank of corporal. She graduated from San Jose State University in 1947 and later that year was married to David G. McIntyre and moved to Sedro-Woolley.
Jean was an active member of the community: she was a member of the PTA, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and for many years a Camp Fire Leader. She belonged to PEO, Beta Sigma Phi, and the American Legion. During the 1970’s and 1980’s, Jean owned and operated the Gift Shop at Deer Harbor Marina on Orcas Island. During her retirement years, Jean enjoyed gardening at her home in Big Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband David in 1991. Jean is survived by her five children David McIntyre Jr of Seattle, Hal McIntyre of Spanaway, Lisa McIntyre of Pullman, Linda Dowe and her husband Bill of Mount Vernon, Martha McIntyre of Deming and four grandchildren Jessica Gillespie, Kegan Dowe, and Matthew and Melanie Garst.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 16, 2002 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Sedro-Woolley with Father Dan Cheizey O.P. as Celebrant. Following Military Honors provided by George Baldridge Post #43 American Legion at the interment at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery; there will be a reception at the church.
