   Jessie May (Moran) Culver, 96, a longtime resident of the Bow-Edison community, passed away at the Life Care Center in Sedro-Woolley on April 2, 2014.

    She was born on May 13, 1917 in Cedardale, Washington, the daughter of Lemuel & Alice (Dove) Arbuckle. The family moved to Sedro-Woolley in the early 1920’s where she was raised and attended school, graduating from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1934.

    Jessie then worked as a nanny for a family in Concrete for a while.

    On August 6, 1935 she was united in marriage to Gordon Moran in Sedro-Woolley and they made their home and raised 2 of their children in Clear Lake. Over the years 2 more children blessed the family. After a while Jessie returned to school, attending Skagit Valley Junior College where she earned a degree in Nursing. She worked as an L.P.N. for several years in the medical & dental fields.

    Gordon passed away in 1958.  In December of 1961, Jessie married Lloyd Culver and they made their home in the Bow-Edison area for 40 years until his passing in 2001.

    Jessie was a longtime member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church; was active in the Fredonia Grange; enjoyed deer hunting, camping, and growing and canning her own vegetables. She was active in politics; even registering voters out of the family’s Clear Lake home; she attended many political rallies; & worked on the Election Board.                         

    Jessie is survived by her sons, Patrick Moran and Michael Moran of Sedro-Woolley and her daughter, Mary Joan Moran of Edison; 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Besides her husbands, Gordon and Lloyd she was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Robert Moran; a grandson, Robert Mason Barker; 1 brother and 2 sisters.

    The family requests that memorials be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Building Fund or to the Arthritis Foundation, 115 NE 100th Street, Suite 350, Seattle, WA 98125.

    A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Sedro-Woolley. A fellowship will immediately follow at the Parish Hall with Graveside committal at 1:30 P.M. at the Bow Cemetery.
