Jimmie Walter Henry passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at the Regional Hospital in Tukwilla, WA with his family at his side at the age of 71 years. He was born November 20, 1930 in Sylvester, GA the son of Jim and Gladys Nancy Jane Hayes Henry. Jimmie lived and attended school in the Sylvester, GA area until enlisting in the United States Air Force on February 3, 1949. During his 24 years in the Air Force, he worked in the aircraft control and warning field. He served from April 1950 till September 1952 at Misawa AFB in Japan. From 1957 till March 1958 at King Salmon, AK and from October 1965 till October 1966 at Tan Son Nhut, Republic of Viet Nam. He also served at several bases in the United States including Stewart AFB, NY, Roslyn AFS, NY, Manassas AFS, VA, Ft. Lee, VA, and Elgin AFB, FL. He retired from the Air Force at Langley AFB, VA on August 31, 1972 with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Jimmie received the Meritorious Service Medal, The Air Force Commendation Medal, The Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Good Conduct Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Korean Service Medal with 3 Campaign Stars, United Nations Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, The Republic of Viet Nam Combat Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, The Korean Presidential Citation, The Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and the Small Arms Expert Marksman Award.
Jimmie was married to Sarah C. McKenzie on June 10, 1953 in Sylvester, GA. After his retirement, they resided in Georgia, North Carolina, and California before settling in Sedro-Woolley for the past 22 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodcrafts. Jimmie was a member of the Baptist Church of Sylvester, GA and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife at the family home in Sedro-Woolley Sarah C. Henry and his children Diane and her husband James Cannon of Clear Lake and a son James and his wife Carol Henry of Sedro-Woolley. 6 grandchildren Angela M. Mahle, James E. Cannon Jr., Kaci C. Cannon, Peter M. Cannon, Christie L. Henry, and Dawn Marie Henry. 6 great grandchildren.
2 brothers Buddy Henry of Moses Lake, WA and Franklin Henry of Sylvester, GA and 2 sisters Louise Young and Eloise Douglas of Sylvester, GA. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be Monday, May 27, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Ron Schenk of the Lyman Baptist Church officiating.
