John B. Moody, 81, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.

He was born on January 26, 1934 in Sedro-Woolley, one of 12 children of Brice and Hattie (Dills) Moody. He was raised and attended grade school in Hamilton and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1952. In high school John was involved in track and boxing, placing second in state for his weight class.

John served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, serving in Korea and Japan. After his discharge, he returned to Skagit County and attended Skagit Valley Junior college, transferring to Western Washington College where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He student taught in Sedro-Woolley and Mount Vernon before teaching industrial arts and woodshop in California and Australia.

In the mi-1960s John returned to the Bay Area of California where he then worked as a custom residential carpenter and contractor for 30 years. In 1996 he retired and moved to Hoquiam, WA where he made his home until returning to Sedro-Woolley in 2014.

John was a snowbird, wintering in Baja, Mexico for 12 years following his retirement. He enjoyed traveling, experiencing Europe and much of the United States. He also was an avid baseball fan; enjoyed reading; religiously watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and was a blood donor, giving over 5 gallons of blood over the years.

John is survived by his 5 siblings and their spouses, Jim & Nancy Moody, Tom & Sharon Moody, Danny & Donna Moody, Robert “Babe” & Ray Melton and Dorothy Lawler; a brother-in-law, John Gallagher and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mack, Jack, Ed and infant baby Moody; sisters, Bonnie Gallagher and Nellie Mani and brother-in-law, Ernest “Tip” Mani and Arlis Lawler.

John’s family would like to especially thank the staff at Country Meadow Village for their kindness and care of John during the last year of his life. The family requests that memorials be made to the Hamilton Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 1383, Lyman, WA 98263.

Private inurnment will take place at the Hamilton Cemetery. A Life Celebration will be held and announced at a later date.
